Al Hammell, Camp Director

Former New York Met minor leaguer, Al Hammell, will direct the 2008 Al Hammell Fundamental Baseball Camps. A local product as a three-sport athlete and standout catcher at Our Lady of Lourdes High School and a 1993 Graduate of LeMoyne College (Syracuse, NY), Hammell was drafted by the New York Mets after his junior season of college in the 28th round of the 1992 Amateur Free Agent Draft. He went on to sign a professional contract and play four years in the Mets organization as a catcher, reaching as high as AAA Norfolk,VA.  Hammell also spent two years as a professional scout in the Anaheim Angels organization from 1999 to 2001.

Hammell is no stranger to area summer campers. He spent four years ('96-'99) at Division I Marist College as the Assistant Baseball Coach. While there, he instructed the pitchers and catchers and coordinated the summer baseball camp efforts for all four years before moving on in 1999 to work with the Angels. Hammell received a Master's Degree in Public Administration and an Advanced Certificate in Elementary Education while at Marist College. He currently teaches Sixth Grade and is the Varsity Baseball Coach in the Millbrook Central School District. He resides in his hometown of Pleasant Valley with his wife, Stacey, seven year-old son, Tyler, four year-old daughter, Morgan, and three year-old daughter, Allie.
